The Neighborhood Association of Reatillo, the village affected by the catastrophic DANA and located next to the estate of the Marchioness María de Borbón y de Rojas, cousin of King Emeritus Juan Carlos I, has denounced the letter sent by the owners of the private preserve of hunt in which they stressed that they did not authorize those affected by the flood to pass through their roads, despite the fact that the bridge that connects the CV-395 highway with the small population center has been seriously damaged. “What the Marquis indicates in his writing seems pathetic, surprising and highly unsupportive at these times when we are busy removing the mud from our houses, recovering our gardens, garages, cars and belongings and that the only thing we have wanted since “Minute one has been precisely that, recovering our normality,” states a statement from the neighborhood association.
It is a village with a dozen houses, with neighbors who live all year round and others who spend long periods or weekends, and ages between 22 and 75 years old. On the day of the catastrophic DANA, last October 29, there were five residents in the village.
The neighbors criticize that the letter, signed by the sole administrator of Borcier SA (company that owns the property), the Marquis Ramón José de la Cierva García-Bermúdez, husband of María de Borbón and de Rojas, describes the situation in the area ” erroneously”, with “inaccuracies and statements that are not true”.
“We do not understand the attitude of the king’s cousin and his consort,” say the neighbors, who regret suffering, in the midst of the DANA catastrophe, a “situation of pressure and tension” in their opinion “unfair.” “The only thing we want is to have a pedestrian crossing next to the bridge of the current road, to be able to continue supplying the neighbors who are there normally until the bridge is permanently fixed and the road returns to normal,” he says. the association’s statement. “We ask for absolutely nothing more,” they add.
Although the owner of the property described the neighbors’ alleged “obstinacy” in passing through his property “with two public roads,” the statement recalls that “they are not passable, neither for people nor for vehicles.” “Much less now after the riverbed destroyed everything in its path,” they explain.
The residents of Reatillo remember that “there has been no other communication route in good condition for the village for many years other than the current one whose bridge has been destroyed by DANA.”
The Marquis’s letter states that the residents of the village “repeatedly” ignored the supposed instructions of the Civil Guard, and that they remained “obstinate in transiting” through the private property of the relatives of the emeritus king. On the contrary, the neighborhood association highlights that the agents of the armed institute went to the area in case they needed medicine or food and offered them to leave the village “if necessary.”
“They also told us that if we could continue here it was where we would be better off, as long as they could provide us with access, since it was our usual home. “They understood perfectly that we wanted to stay in our homes if possible, trying to clean the mud and gradually fix the damage,” the statement states.
The neighbors reveal that a representative of the village spoke with the daughter of the Marquis of Mairena to offer her the possibility of signing a document to assume the responsibility of walking through his property, thus “exempting” them from any possible claim. “They did not want to accept,” the statement indicates.
The husband of María de Borbón y de Rojas, Marquis of Mairena, also stated in the letter published by elDiario.es that the neighbors crossed their private hunting grounds “with vehicles or on foot.” However, the village statement denies this statement and assures that the only vehicles that have entered are those that provided help to the neighbors.
They also deny that they are located in a flood-prone area, as the marquis stated. “The village has been located in the same place for a few hundred years and is far enough from the river to not be a flood zone,” say the neighbors, who try to keep the ravines clean and remember that “the houses in the village have never been flooded.” urban core.”
Ramón José de la Cierva García-Bermúdez stated that he lent his satellite communications to “all the people of Chera and Requena who wanted to communicate with their relatives.” The residents of the village declare that all their houses have solar energy, mobile phones and signal boosters, as well as internet and television. “We don’t know who he claims to have helped, but he certainly hasn’t helped us,” they conclude.
