The recently formed Jurists for Palestine platform, made up of lawyers, judges, prosecutors and academics, has demanded that the Government the breakdown of relations and the arms embargo on Israel, in addition to the protection of the Palestinian people through the resolutions of international law, the reception of asylum seekers and the supervision of the UN to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.
“We have found that traditional judicial channels have not been effective in stopping the connivance of the Spanish State in the face of crimes committed against the Palestinian people, which has led this group to unite to exert pressure,” the platform said in a statement.
That is why, as a first action, Jurists for Palestine has drafted an urgent request to the Government to demand “compliance with international legality in defense of human rights.” Among the measures requested, the platform demands the Executive to break relations with Israel and cut off the supply of weapons to the Jewish State.
Likewise, the platform requests that UN resolutions related to Palestine are respectedsuch as the defense of their right to self-determination and the protection of their population. Among these protection measures, they demand that the Government, as is done with citizens of Ukraine or Venezuela, offer guarantees to Palestinian asylum seekers.
Along these same lines, the group of jurists demands that the Government monitor the UN to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza that allows the entry of humanitarian aid and the reestablishment of basic services.
These requests are accompanied by a collection of signatures, which has exceeded 400 supports, says the platform. If they are not heard, the group has indicated that it “considers calling for mobilization actions to exert the necessary pressure in defense of justice and human rights.”
