San Diego de Alcalá, a Franciscan friar of Spanish origin, was born in Seville in the year 1400. From a young age, he opted for a hermit’s life, but later joined the Franciscan order of Arruzafa in Córdoba as a lay brother. Later, he moved to Fuerteventura as a missionary, where he served as guardian at the Franciscan convent on the Canary Island, earning recognition for his charisma, charity and dedication to apostolic work. In 1449, he decided to return to the Iberian Peninsula, initially being assigned to Alcalá de Guadaira and then to Sanlúcar de Barrameda. In 1450, he made a trip to Rome for the Holy Year and, upon returning, he was assigned to Alcalá de Henares, where he died in 1463.
