For chef Mark Hix it has not been an easy decision, but after 16 years he will permanently close his restaurant Oyster & Fish House located in the coastal town of Lyme Regis. The place, opened in 2008, a year after Hix’s victory in The Great British Menu, has its days numbered, specifically until December 7. This was announced to his 25,000 followers on his Instagram profile.
In the publication, he himself refers to the numerous challenges that it had to face in recent years: “It is true that there have been some ups and downs over the years, particularly with the pandemic, as well as increasing pressure on the industry.” The famous British chef was even involved in a dispute with the town council after the removal of a cover worth more than 20,000 pounds.
Although Hix’s intention was for the wooden structure installed temporarily during 2020 to become permanent, local councilors voted to remove it. The more than 10,000 signatures collected did not ensure that this part of the restaurant would disappear in 2023.
In the statement he also took the opportunity to thank them for the affection they have shown him during the 16 years. Although At the moment he has no intention of opening another restaurant.he did want to clarify that it does not mean his end in the industry. What’s more, he has already announced that he will organize an event at his own home in Charmouth. “You may no longer be able to dine at my restaurant, but you can still come dine with me at my house!” were the words with which the message ended.
