The University of Malaga has announced this afternoon that, given the weather forecasts for this Wednesday, November 13, it is suspending activity in all its centers.
“With this action, we not only preserve the safety of our university community, but we also contribute to avoiding hundreds of trips from different parts of the city and the province to our campuses,” explains the UMA in a statement sent after 8:30 p.m. .
The UMA asks to follow the recommendations of the authorities and emergency services, among them: avoid risks, do not approach rivers or streams, stay in high areas and do not make unnecessary trips.
The Junta de Andalucía analyzes the situation for schools
At 9:00 p.m., the Andalusian Government had not yet announced whether classes in educational centers will also be suspended. Spokesperson Carolina España said at a press conference that the decision was being evaluated by the Presidential Counselor, Antonio Sanz, the Government delegate in Malaga, Patricia Navarro, and those responsible for the territorial delegations.
“Everything that affects the suspension of school classes will be analyzed with the mayors, Civil Protection and all emergency services. It will be taken in coordination with the mayors, depending on the risks of each area and neighborhood. There is a probability that classes will be suspended, but no decision has been made,” Spain said.
A few minutes later, Sanz activated the emergency phase, operational situation 1 of the Flood Risk Emergency Plan due to the risk of flooding.
