Recently, at a neighborhood meeting, after several years in which opinions were divided, the decision was made to cut down three of the trees that surround the building where we live: a cherry tree that is more than forty years old and reaches the windows. on the third floor, a fir tree almost as tall as the house and an elderberry (in principle it is a bush, but it is so large that it can already be considered a tree). The reasons are logical: they are too close and block out the sun, which, in Austria, is important.
In any case, I know that I am going to miss them very much and I can’t help thinking that many of the things that I don’t like today about the world we live in began as decisions and changes that seemed beneficial when they occurred.
