This Monday, the Government approved a new Royal Decree Law with relief measures for those affected by DANA in País Valencià and other territories. The main new developments have been explained Pedro Sanchez in an appearance in Moncloa and subsequently the ministries involved have specifically disseminated their initiatives.
This is the case of the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2023, which leads Pablo Bustinduy. His department has coined the term “Safety Net” for people affected by DANA. Among these measures, a sum of 50 million euros stands out that will be transferred to the town councils affected by the catastrophe to reinforce their social services.
The objective, according to Bustinduy, is that “social services have the necessary resources to address all the situations of sudden poverty that, as he has said, this catastrophe has generated and that will also translate into situations of material deprivation and severe risk of social exclusion for thousands of people.
In terms of Consumption, Bustinduy has introduced an article that prohibits funeral services from offering prices higher than those in force or those announced prior to October 28 of this year 2024. The minister guarantees that everyone who needs it can access wake services and funeral ceremonies “under conditions of equity”, and the rights of all affected people in the field of consumption continue to be protected. “A tragedy of these characteristics cannot be a context that gives rise to the economic benefit of any operator,” he pointed out.
On the other hand, the Royal Decree Law includes direct emergency subsidies to animal shelters. That is, to those entities destined for the custody and care of lost and/or abandoned pets. “It is the first time in history that aid of this type has been approved, it has a budget of 390,000 euros and its objective is to rebuild infrastructure of this type that has been damaged in the DANA,” the ministry points out.
According to the Ministry of Social Rights, these facilities are key to care for pets and to confront the public health danger that has been generated in the affected areas, where the number of animals on public roads has multiplied without any health control in a context of infectious epidemiological risk.
Furthermore, Bustinduy has included in this Royal Decree Law a direct grant of 5 million euros to the Third Sector Platform. This platform represents nearly 28,000 entities throughout Spain, such as the Red Cross, Caritas, CERMI or the Volunteer Platform. A direct grant of 700,000 euros has also been approved to the General Council of Social Work for the deployment of the State Group for Intervention in Social Emergencies in the affected municipalities.
