Those affected by the failed Stellantis engines will walk the streets of Barcelona this Saturday in a march that seeks to reactivate conversations with the company in the face of what they consider “lack of understanding” by the company, which they accuse of offering “false promises” to extend vehicle warranties.
The manufacturing anomaly of the defective PureTech motors -used in brands such as Opel, Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Jeep and Toyota- consists of a “gradual degradation” of the timing belt, which causes high oil consumption, vacuum pump malfunction and other “serious failures” that lead to premature degradation of the engine. The flaw was discovered in 2020 in cars that have been on the market since 2014.
In total, the automobile group sold 765,000 vehicles with this engine, although at European level there are more than four million vehicles with this type of engine.
The more than 6,000 affected people organized in the Association of People Affected by Stellantis (Afestel) demonstrate in Barcelona after having organized a similar march at the Stellantis headquarters in Spainin Vigo, on October 5 with the aim of the company recognizing the factory defect, removing the vehicles for scrapping and returning the amounts paid for excessive repairs and maintenance.
They also want it to offer compensation for each day that the vehicle has been stopped without a replacement car for the user and to compensate for the devaluation of the vehicle.
Catalonia is the Autonomous Community with the most affected cars, since nearly 80,000 are in Barcelona.
From now on, Other Spanish cities will witness the claims of those affected. On November 23, it will be the Andalusians who will gather in Seville. Another demonstration will take place in December in Zaragoza, where Stellantis has a headquarters, and the last one planned for this year is scheduled for December 21 in Madrid.
