The Department of Justice USA has filed federal charges against three people in connection with an alleged plot orchestrated by Iranian authorities to assassinate to the virtual winner of these last elections, the Republican magnate Donald Trump, as announced this Friday the Associated Press news agency.
An unnamed official in Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard ordered a contact last September to come up with a plan to monitor and ultimately kill Trumpaccording to a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Manhattan.
It is about Farhad Shakeriwhom the Revolutionary Guard official also asked to liquidate an American citizen of Iranian origin residing in New York. While he remains a fugitive, his two cronies, Carlisle Rivera and Jonathon Loadholt, have been arrested.
In the event that Shakeri fails to orchestrate a plan before the elections on November 5, Iran would pause the plot until after the elections. If he lost at the polls, as the Revolutionary Guard official expected, he considered that it would be easier to assassinate Trump then.
For his part, Shakeri has assured the FBI that I wasn’t planning on proposing a plan. to murder the businessman within the seven days that the official had given him.
“A serious threat”
«There are few actors in the world who represent such a serious threat to national security of the United States as Iran does,” said the attorney general of the North American country, Merrick Garland, who has detailed that among those detained there are two citizens of New York, who would have been hired by an agent of the Persian nation.
The Justice Department has described Shakeri as an Iranian Revolutionary Guard asset residing in Tehran. emigrated to the United States as a child and expelled in or around 2008 after being convicted of robbery.
Shakeri, Rivera and Loadholt have been accused of attempted murder for hireconspiracy to commit murder and money laundering. The sum of these three crimes can carry maximum sentences of up to 40 years in prison.
For his part, Shakeri, who is believed to be in Iran, has been charged of terrorism and violating sanctions lawswhich could mean another prison sentence of up to 60 years.
The plot, uncovered a few days after Trump defeated Kamala Harris, reflects what federal officials have described as continued efforts by Iran to attack to US Government workers on US soil.
