The Andalusian startup Naturcode has received an injection of 180,000 euros from ENISA (National Innovation Company SA) that will allow it to launch its smart labeling in supermarkets. Based in Jabugo (Huelva) Last year, it managed to invoice around 120,000 euros with its QR code technology that complements that of front labeling. It offers additional information that allows consumers to contact producers and distributors of labeled products, provides product information beyond that provided by algorithms (for example Nutriscore) or the traditional quality-price ratio, also allowing them to receive constant feedback from from the consumer with ratings and comments to both distributors and producers and manufacturers.
The company explains that more than 5,000 products and 1,000 producers and brands already have the Naturcode smart label, which provides consumers with complete and detailed information that gives them the advantage of differentiating themselves in a market in which there are 15 million products and only 10% of them are digitalized; from their description, their ingredients or their origin to the recognitions received or the certifications they have.
Transparency
“Naturcode is the first communication channel for digital identification of agri-food products whose objective is to add value to the entire chain with impartiality and transparency. Our commitment has been to create a circular model for the use of data in which the information reaches all links in the chain: Naturcode offers information both to consumers about the agri-food products they buy and information about purchases from producers and distributors,” explains Fernando Vázquez, CEO of the Andalusian company.
Naturcode born in 2016 in Andalusia – the result of a request from an organic wine producer in the province of Malaga – with an international vocation. It is already present in the fresh, wine and preserved sections of large Spanish distribution chains.
In addition to the support of the industry, it has signed agreements with Ifapa, consumer and producer associations and professional associations to support the information it offers with an ethical code. He also obtained the recognition by the European Commission at the end of 2019 after being selected by the Technical Assistance Service (TAF) program from among the almost 80 European initiatives that were presented to launch the COMPLAT Project (Communication Platform).
