Those who arrived before the EMU

It would be blind to deny that neighborhood unrest exists, and more than justified. But let’s not be so naive as to believe that everything is spontaneous desperation when the ‘crème de la crème’ of hoax, intoxication and anti-politics, including the most violent extreme right, has been camped in the area for five days.

They expected rescue teams, firefighters, soldiers, excavators and essential products to arrive to their devastated streets, and none of that: those who appeared on the streets of the most affected Valencian towns, already from the first hours, were not the UME but Alvise and Desokupa, Negre and his pseudo journalists, Iker Jiménez and Ana Rosa, the spreaders of hoaxes against the government or against immigrants, the deniers, various neo-Nazi groups and fachatubers. Not one has been missing, they are all in Valencia.

The neighbors have every reason to be desperate and angry, to boo an official delegation that brings nothing and that only hinders, even to throw harmless and symbolic mud at the pristine people who walk without much sense through their streets. It would be blind to deny that the unrest exists, since the magnitude of the disaster is in itself ungovernable, and the errors and poor coordination of the different administrations in the first days add up, and the general overflow. But let’s not be so naive as to believe that everything is spontaneous despair when the creme de la creme of hoax, intoxication, journalistic sensationalism, anti-politics and the extreme right, including the most violent extreme right, has been camped in the area for five days.

To all of those in the first paragraph we must add the “all in one” campaign of those who, on television, talk shows, radio and newspaper covers, have already decided to distribute the blame and repeat the same slogans: the failed State, the inhibition of the government , the president ignores it, the Valencians are abandoned, the fault lies with the AEMET… And without forgetting Feijóo, the earliest of them in the area, already marking the messages in the very first hour.

DANA has already taken down several hundred lives and thousands of homes and businesses as well as infrastructure, but some are betting that it will also take down the Sánchez government. And in their aggressive and manipulative campaign, pouring gasoline on a terrain as flammable as that, with the very high emotional temperature (not only of the victims, of the country as a whole), they can destroy democracy.

What happened this Sunday in Paiporta was a citizen protest, yes, and full of reason. But it was also an attempted lynching by the authorities, and especially the president of the government, with people kicking and hitting one of his cars, and justified in the media and networks that circulated the slogan “the president flees”, “Sánchez leaves thrown to kings”, “flee like a rat”; the same ones who have been questioning his legitimacy for years or calling him an autocrat and the Sanchista regime, or who predicted that he would end up hanging by his feet. And they are not going to stop until they achieve it.

The priority today is to assist the victims of DANA, those who need help, those who have lost everything, those who continue searching for their missing people. All efforts must be put there, without a doubt. But be careful that emergencies do not make us neglect that other flood of hatred and manipulation for whose destruction we will all pay.
