The sector
In Spain there are some 33 million tons of construction and demolition waste annually. Specifically, in the Aragonese community, this figure stands at 550,000 tons.
The main typologies of this production are public tender works that represent 38% of production. Next, there is residential work (23%) and rehabilitation and reform works with 21%.
However, in the last year, only 27% has been valued as recycled aggregate for applications mainly such as gravel, drainage materials and aggregates for concrete and 34% in fillings and restorations (backfilling). Around 27% ends up deposited in inert landfills with 2% in RNP landfills. Furthermore, a 10% of production can still be considered uncontrolled and deposited in unauthorized places.
Spain is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the manufacture of recycled aggregates originating from RCD treatment places Spain. The implementation of recycled aggregates in roads, concrete, precast, cement plants, among other locations, their behavior on site, as well as the technical and legislative regulatory advances, and the numerous innovation projects in this field, show that it is possible to achieve compliance with the objectives of the 70% valuation Directive. A percentage whose achievement requires the direct will of all the agents involved in the construction sector.
