The strike of the butane distributor transporters begins, who will not work today nor on the days November 13, 21 and 29 and December 5, 11, 17 and 23. The strike has been called by the Spanish Federation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Distributors (Fedglp), as explained in a statement, to “put pressure on the authorities and operators to review the remuneration of the service”; That is, what distributors charge to bring the cylinders to homes, centers and businesses.
At the heart of the controversy is the system for updating the remuneration that transport companies receive for each cylinder, which the sector assures has been “stalled for a decade” due to the inaction of the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
And meanwhile, they say from the federation, there has been an inflationary crisis and increases in fuel prices and labor costs, which with current prices has led companies to an “unsustainable” situation.
From Fedglp they denounce that they have tried on multiple occasions to negotiate a review of the rates that allows distributors to cover their main operating costs, such as salaries, fleet maintenance and other expenses derived from the service itself. Likewise, the federation has requested the Ministry to update the system that regulates the price of cylinders to include adequate and fair remuneration that makes the service provided by delivery people viable; all of this, without success, until now.
The eight days of strikes that are planned will affect the distribution of more than 150,000 butane cylinders, which are those supplied daily throughout Spain to more than six million homes..
This excludes the supply to points of sale and users in situations of social vulnerability, educational, health, social care centers, nursing homes, and non-profit institutions, places in which FEDGLP will continue to maintain the supply despite all. «The FEDGLP regrets the inconvenience that this measure may causebut considers that it is necessary to protect the viability of the distributors and guarantee the modernization and sustainability of the service in the long term,” the employers’ association has settled.
