The founder and first shareholder of Inditex, Amancio Ortega, will receive a total of 2,845 million euros this year in dividends from the company, above the 2,217 million he received for this concept last year.
We must remember, the Galician tycoon owns 59% of the shares of a textile group that is the largest Spanish listed company, the first in the world in its sector, and does not stop growing. In 2023, sales increased by 10.4% year-on-year, to 35,947 million euros, with a satisfactory evolution both in store and online, positive in all geographical areas and all formats. Thanks to this, the fiscal year closed with record profits of 5,381 million, 30.3% more than a year before.
Thus, today Ortega will receive 1,422.5 million euros for the last remuneration of the year that the Galician firm will pay to its shareholders. Logically, the news is also good for the rest of the shareholders, even more so after Inditex approved last year a 28% increase in the dividend corresponding to the year 2023. Thus, shareholders will receive up to 1.54 euros this year per share, a total of 4.8 billion euros between them.
For her part, her daughter Sandra Ortega which owns 5.053% of the Galician firm (157.48 million shares), will collect more than 242 million euros compared to the 188 million it received the previous year. This participation of the first-born daughter in the company’s shares is due to an inheritance from her mother, who was the first wife of the Galician magnate. Even so, this businesswoman has her own investments beyond the textile firm and everything indicates that she will not inherit her father’s baton, since the one running for that position is her stepsister, Martha Ortega.
