MotoGP has made it official this Friday through a statement that it cancels the Valencia Grand Prix for DANA. The test was to take place from November 15 to 17, but voices had multiplied in the paddock about the conviction of not contesting the race on the Cheste route, also affected by the effects of the storm.
From MotoGP they point out that “after assessing the potential positive impact of racing in Valencia on later dates, guaranteeing that none of the resources to recover from the damage are allocated to the presence of MotoGP, the championship and the local authorities have decided to cancel the Grand Prix of Valencia”.
In this sense, they defend that they will run “for Valencia” and that they will put their “collective efforts” into supporting fundraising to help the people and areas affected by DANA. At the same time, they emphasize that they will look for a new circuit to hold the last test of the season. The new venue for the championship finale and the dates on which it will take place will be announced soon.
On the part of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, they point out that “although from a logistical point of view the celebration of the event was viable, the general situation of the area does not advise holding events.” As for the fans who had tickets for the grand prix scheduled in Cheste, the Circuit states that “they will have the opportunity to keep their seats for” next year’s test, which will take place on November 16, 2025.
Dorna informed the drivers a few hours ago that the Generalitat Valenciana prefers that the test not be carried out (which was to take place from November 15 to 17) and that several options are being explored to replace the Valencian route.
According to what he claims AceJerez, Montmeló, Alcañiz and Qatar are the candidates on the table for the last event of the season, which could decide who wins the title, Jorge Martín or Francesco Bagnaia.
Some drivers like Pecco Bagnaia had stood up: the Italian refused to compete in Valencia even if it cost him the World Championship
Precisely one of the contenders for the championship, the Italian Pecco Bagnaia, launched an outrage this Friday at the Malaysian Grand Prix. The double world champion is totally against the event being held in Valencia: “It depends on where it is held, because I don’t think it is correct to race there. I hope you keep in mind that on an ethical level it is not the right situation, it is not the right thing to do.” And he went further: the Italian pointed out that he was not willing to race in Cheste even if this cost him the title.
For his part, Jorge Martín was open to competing on any track, even the Valencian one, but asked to solve this issue now: “It is important for everyone to know. For now, I run as if there were another race, be it Valencia or somewhere else, because that’s probably what will happen. I’m going to go win and if I have the opportunity, I will take it; If not, then I will try to do the best I can, but it would be good to know for us.”
Marc Márquez was also of the opinion that the Cheste Grand Prix should not be held (at least next weekend): “Raise right now the situation that not only the Valencian Community is experiencing, but Spain in general, or Thinking about putting some resources into a circuit is not ethically correct. For me, the only option or the only sense that would make the Valencia Grand Prix, whether in two or four weeks, would be to help the people affected by DANA.”
