The three main Asturian cities -Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés- are among the top fifteen in the national ranking with the oldest average age and with the lowest activity rate in 2023, according to the Urban Indicators published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
MIDDLE AGE
The median age of the population shows the exact age that divides the resident population leaving the same number of people below and above it.
Avilés has the second highest median age in the country, with 51.1 years, only below Ferrol, with 51.6, while Gijón, with 50.3, and Oviedo, with 49, are ranked sixth and fifteenth position, respectively.
ACTIVITY RATE
Asturian cities also stand out for their low activity rate: Avilés is the second Spanish city with the lowest rate, 51 percent; Gijón, third, with 51.2 percent, and Oviedo is in 14th place, with 52.8 percent.
CHILDREN
Gijón is the fifth Spanish city with the lowest average number of children (0.88) in the relationship headed by San Cristóbal de La Laguna, at 0.79.
RENT
By administrative districts or neighborhoods, the data for the lowest average monthly rent in 2022 includes three enclaves in Gijón, in 17th place La Calzada in Gijón (420.8 euros), in 21st place Contrueces (429.9 euros) and in 24th place Pumarín (435.8 euros).
Pozuelo de Alarcón registered the highest average monthly expense for renting the habitual residence in 2022, with 1,088.4 euros, while Ponferrada had the lowest, with 347.9 euros.
RENT
Regarding the average annual income per inhabitant in 2022 Oviedo/Uvieu It occupies ninth place in the national classification, with 15,616 euros, and Gijon twelfth place with 15,101.
The neighborhoods with the highest average annual net income per inhabitant in cities with more than 250,000 inhabitants in 2022 were El Viso (43,575 euros), Recoletos (40,956) and Piovera (39,164), all three in Madrid.
EMPLOYMENT
The financial analysis unit (AUF) according to the highest proportion of employment in the year 2022 in the industry is headed by Avilés (26.00) while in services the ranking of highest employment is Oviedo in eleventh place (85.7) and The lowest is led by Avilés (65.2) and Gijón is eleventh (72.7).
