The Galician Altia, which has 30 years of experience accompanying organizations in their technological transformation, heads the consortium that has been selected as main contractor to carry out application development and maintenance services for the European Patent Office (EPO).
The contract has a maximum estimated value of 160 million euros and an expected duration of five years. The consortium includes companies Bilbomática, an Altia Company, ARHS, SoftServe and SAM Solutionsall of them with extensive experience in large-scale technological projects.
This contract, called SDAM, is fundamental for the EPO, an intergovernmental institution that received more than 199,000 patent applications in 2023 and plays a crucial role in supporting innovation and economic growth in Europe.
The EPO contract focuses on the development and maintenance of critical applications for the organization and reaches the domains related to business, corporate and web publishing.
Altia, together with its consortium partners, will be responsible for the creation, maintenance and optimization of applications that support the internal and external processes of the EPO.
These applications must be able to handle the complexities of the European patent system. The consortium will be responsible for the evolution and preventive and corrective maintenance of the applications covered by the contract, guaranteeing their operability and security.
Security and performance
This includes supporting, troubleshooting, and updating systems to maintain high levels of performance. In addition, improvements will be implemented to the EPO’s technological infrastructure, with security updates and performance optimization to ensure that the systems are capable to adapt to future demands.
He director of Altia European ServicesÓscar Fernández, expressed his pride in leading this consortium and having been selected by the EPO for a contract “of such relevance and magnitude,” he said. This contract reaffirms Altia’s position as a provider of IT services for large European public organizations, and its positioning in the field of intellectual property.
