In its desire to continue being the first to receive Christmas, the Vigo City Council has completed this Tuesday the assembly of the large Christmas tree of Porta do Solwith the installation of a large three-dimensional star at the top of the structure. The tree will be part of a ‘forest’ of luminous trees, which will be installed in that same square and which, according to the mayor, Abel Caballero, will “go around the world” in the Willy Fog style.
The olive councilor has explained that the installation of the star will give the Christmas fir tree almost 10 meters more height, and the tree as a whole will exceed 44 meters high reached last Christmas, when it was already “the tallest Christmas tree in Spain,” he said.
“Anecdotally, it’s going to get to Mars. We’ll beat Elon Musk the race of who gets to Mars first: Vigo’s Christmas tree will arrive,” Caballero joked. On the other hand, the mayor has confirmed that this fir tree will be part of a “forest of living Christmas light trees”, although not has gone into detail about what it will be like, to reserve the surprise at the moment of lighting.
The official date of the ignition is another of the unknowns whose secret will be revealed “in a few days”, and it has only been announced that it will have 8 luminous trees 8 meters high each. “You have to wait for the moment of lighting to arrive to understand this phrase, but it will go around the world,” he predicted, before pointing out that “there is great expectation to know when Vigo lights up Christmas.”
Ice rinks and markets
Another of the great novelties of this year is the wandering ice rink that was already in the Náutico area and then moved to the Plaza de Portugal and that will go to the Vialia square. There will be two, one for adults and one for children. In addition, three booths will create a small Christmas market.
