The Ministry of the Interior has started the process to turn back the purchase of 15 million bullets to the Israeli company Guardian Defense & Homeland Security for the Civil Guard for 6.6 million euros, according to Cadena Ser.
Specifically, it was a contract tendered on February 21, 2024 and awarded this October 21 to the subsidiary of the international group Guardian LTD Israel, valued at 6,642,900 euros for the purchase of 15,300,000 9mm Parabelum caliber bullets.
The reason for this cancellation, the Government points out, is the commitment of do not buy or sell weapons to Israel for the genocide committed in Gaza, in addition to “other Israeli companies will be excluded, as bidders, in other arms acquisition files that are currently being processed by the General Directorate of the Civil Guard”, according to the same media.
The tender for this contract took place a month after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, assured that Spain had agreed not participate in the sale of arms with Israel and that no agreement of this type had occurred with the Hebrew State since October 7, 2023, when it began its offensive in Gaza.
Antonio Maíllo asks to “cut relations with Israel now”
The federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida, Antonio Maíllohas celebrated that the purchase has been canceled “due to popular pressure and organizations” and has asked to “sever relations with Israel now.”
“We have just learned the news that this purchase has been annulled. We are glad that in the face of popular pressure and organizations the Ministry has rectified it. This victory gives us encouragement for the following battles. “We must cut relations with Israel now.”he has published on his social networks.
