IG doesn’t stop giving us something to talk about with its functions, although we come this time to tell you something about the social network of Goal that it is not a new tool or an interesting update; This time it is a technical matter.
It turns out that not all videos on the platform are treated the same way in terms of technical specifications, because Instagram adjusts the resolution of videos based on the views they have received. This is a detail that until now had been little known (did you know that?).
Videos that look more and better on Instagram
The issue was brought to light directly by the person in charge of the social application, Adam Mosseri. But the executive also did not hide the main reason for such a characteristic from the public; commented that the decision is due to the high costs of processing and storing files that are larger.
Now well. It is important to note that this type of approach seems meritocratic, but that is only on paper, because for the common user what it does is further direct its portfolio of desirable functions only to those who already have a very large audience, thus penalizing less popular users or to creators who are still building their audience base.
Mosseri underwent an AMA Q&A session (Ask me anything) through his Instagram profile, and among the most interesting questions that were asked, there was one that asked why the resolution of the videos in the section Highlights (the one that saves the featured videos in the profile) was more ‘fuzzy’ than the newly published ones. It was then that the number one on Instagram admitted that most videos accumulate views especially in the first days after their publication, so the process consists of lower the qualitywith the promise of raising it, eventually, if there is interest again.
Unequal conditions
The same principle also applies in a more general sense to the most viewed videos on the platform, which can therefore enjoy a higher resolution than those that are not as successful; generally coming from users with a good follower base. And that is the main problem, that the “career” is not the same for everyone.
Threads content
This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.
From that revelation, in the same question and answer session, criticism from users did not take long to arrive, arguing that already established creators with large audiences can with this maintain or even permanently consolidate their leadership over those who They start to take off. Is this meaningless? Well, Mosseri defended himself by pointing out that in reality the resolution wouldn’t be much lowerand that the statistics they have collected indicate that it is the quality of the content, more than that of the video, the main objective of the creators. So, you may or may not like the decision (which is not without logic from an economic point of view from IG), that is the way the network works, and given the honesty of the comment, it does not seem that that is going to change in a near future.
But so that the “small fish” are not left out, let’s close with a function that any user can enjoy, even if not even his mother follows him. This is one of the latest changes that have been made official by Instagram, and they are the new Profile Cards, here we tell you what they are and how you can use them to your advantage.
