The Ametic Board of Directors will meet on October 31 to decide the president of the technology association, to choose between the candidates of Ezequiel Navarro or Francisco Hortigüela. The first of them has the support of the previous president, Pedro Mier, so Navarro’s program is presumed to be continuous. On the other hand, the former general director of the association goes to the elections with his proposal for change. The board represents more than 300 associates and is made up of 60 representatives of associations and companies (classified into three groups) as well as representatives of Ametic’s 21 commissions and elected officials.
At the same time as the president, Ametic will have new members and management positions, including the vice president, secretary and treasurer. Likewise, the winning candidacy will appoint the new Executive Committee, considered the collegiate body with permanent action in the government, management, administration and direction of the association. As the statutes dictate, the members of the Executive Committee must be ratified by the Board of Directors.
Candidate Ezequiel Navarro
Ezequiel Navarro is a director and former CEO of Grupo Premo, a company chaired by Pedro Mier, outgoing president of Ametic. He is also president of the Ricardo Valle Institute of Innovation Foundation. She is accompanied in her candidacy by Pilar Torres (with experience in IBM, AWS, Atos), as vice president; Julián Inza (former director at Banesto and Telefónica), as secretary; and Clara Gálvez (from the Association of Technology Parks), as treasurer.
Ezequiel Navarro: “My candidacy defends a stronger, more competitive and dynamic sector”
What motivates you to run for the presidency of Ametic?
I am running for the presidency of Ametic because I believe that we have to preserve the work done by the association and promote its activity. In recent years, bridges have been built with operators and their associations, with whom we have many shared objectives, such as talent, innovation and connectivity. Ametic has promoted macro-projects that have served as inspiration for the Perte, such as semiconductors or Space or Health.
Do you consider then that Pedro Mier’s management should continue?
Of course you have to give it continuity. But, looking to the future, there are many challenges that we have to improve, such as coordination and integration with other associations. We also have to put the associate at the center, as well as improve the activity, presence and voice of the 21 commissions. I believe that the future of the industry lies in these security technologies, blockchain, quantum, with an absolutely industrial perspective of defense for Spanish and European companies. In the other candidacy, for example, I have seen voting delegations from Asian companies.
Do you have a slogan?
Yes, it’s a new time for Ametic. In my candidacy program I also highlight a phrase by Simone de Beauvoir, “true generosity towards the future consists of giving everything to the present”; and another from Ortega y Gasset, “it is only possible to progress when you think big, it is only possible to advance when you look far away.”
Candidate Francisco Hortigüela
Francisco Hortigüela, founder and CEO of InBusiness 5.0 and former general director of Ametic, aspires to lead the voice of the Spanish Digital industry. Its governance team is made up of Alicia Asín, CEO of Libelium, as vice president; Sandra Figaredo, from Innocv and the Spanish Startup Association, as general secretary; and José Luis Manzanarez, CEO of Ayesa, as treasurer.
Why are you running for president of Ametic?
Many associates have asked me to run for president of Ametic. They all want changes and demand a more open, stronger, more influential association. And also more participatory and representative of the entire ecosystem. What will be your program? We believe that, after eight years of the previous management, it is good that a change occurs, with greater weight for all associates. We want to work hand in hand with other large associations such as Digitales or the CEO. We want to seek winning alliances in which we all win, without seeking confrontation. We are also committed to a board of directors that has more executive power, less personalistic than the previous management, with an executive committee close to the different commissions.
Francisco Hortigüela: “We need to open the windows and let fresh air into the association”
How do you value Pedro Mier’s management?
Pedro Mier is a strong, powerful personality who has done a good job. And now I think it is the right time to make a change to create an association with another vision, more open and more participatory. We want an association for everyone and we need to open the windows and let in fresh air. But I also want to make it clear that there are two candidates, but without confrontation between the two. In the end, whoever comes out, there will be only one metric.
Any other message to attract the vote?
Simply note that it is not a movement led by me, but by many companies, large, small, medium, and also by many associations.
