The strong rains that are plaguing Spain these days are causing havoc in several autonomous communities. The most affected areas are Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Community and Catalonia, where this Monday flooding and landslides were recorded on dozens of roads.
The intense rainfall has caused significant incidents. It has been the case of Benalmádena, in Málaga, where the Firefighters have carried out 11 interventions due to flooding on public roads and in several homes in the lower part of the city. Besides, three people had to be rescued when they become trapped in their vehicles.
The intense storm has also reached the Valencian coast, with the situation in the province of Castellonwhere more than 100 l/m2 have been reported. Several roads have had to be closed due to flooding and authorities have asked for “maximum caution” due to landslides on the road from Seratella to Albocàsser. In addition, the CSIF union has reported that the Grau de Castellón office has been affected by problems with leaks, cracks and water leaks.
In Catalonia, The greatest damage has been recorded in Tarragonawhere several landslides on roads have been reported. The most shocking occurred in Cap Salou and forced the closure of Calle de la Falconera as it was completely blocked.
In Cambrils and Vila-seca Five people had to be rescued who were trapped in their cars. In this area, the Firefighters have also had to intervene due to the flooding of streets and the basements of some homes.
The front has also caused serious incidents in the Balearic archipelago. In the last hours, in Majorca Emergency services have carried out nearly 400 interventions. The main complications have taken place on the roads, where 10 roads have had to be closed due to flooding and a dozen more have suffered alternating traffic, also affecting the access points to Palma de Mallorca. Eight vehicles have even had to be rescued after being trapped by water.
The biggest problems have been caused the overflow of the Porto Cristo torrent. In the S’Estany d’en Mas area, several cars have been swept away by rising water and landslides have occurred on roads near the town.
In addition, there have been streaks of wind that exceed 60 kilometers per hour in points of Capdepera, Cabrera and Manacor. In this last location, 180 l/m2 have been recorded, which has caused dozens of vehicles to be swept away by the water.
