The drivers of urban buses, intercity buses and tow trucks will begin this Monday a general strike throughout Spain to demand early retirement in the sector, with minimum services that have been set at 50% at the state level.
According to the resolution of minimum services published by the Ministry of Transport and Urban Mobility, 50% of currently authorized shipments must be carried out. If it is a route made up of a single expedition, it will be carried out in its entirety.
The main companies that provide long-distance bus services will contact the holders of the tickets whose service has had to be suspendedoffering them free change.
The autonomous communities and city councils have also established the minimum services in their respective regions. For example, in Catalonia will be 40% at peak hours and 20% the rest; In San Sebastián many lines will be cancelled, in the Balearic Islands they will be between 50% and 60%, or in Navarra 60% during peak hours and 40% the rest.
Dates of the strikes
Monday is the first day of the strike, but there will be more days of strike on November 11, 28 and 29, December 5 and 9, and starting December 23 indefinitely if an agreement is not reached between unions and employers.
This Monday, CCOO and UGT will also gather at the government delegation in Madrid at 12:30 p.m.
What do they claim?
The decision to continue with the strike comes after the failure of the negotiations that took place this Thursday with the mediation of the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy with the different employers’ associations in the sector.
The Spanish Confederation of Bus Transport (Confebús) and the Association of Urban and Metropolitan Public Transport (ATUC) have regretted in a statement that it has not been possible to reach an agreement to avoid the strike.
Both organizations have asked the unions to prepare a study before going to the Ministry to urge the start of the procedure of setting the early retirement age for bus drivers.
“Without this study, the main associations in the passenger transport sector cannot make any decision in this regard, as they are unaware of the implications that a measure of this magnitude could entail,” they defend, in relation to the increase in business contributions that the early retirement.
It is about the two only sectors (buses and cranes) in which it has not been possible to reach an agreementafter those driving ambulances and those driving goods (mainly trucks) have called off after negotiating the request to the Government to apply the advance retirement due to the dangerousness of the sector.
However, the employers assure that they remain open to new conversations to try to unblock this situation. Union sources consulted by Europa Press point to November 6 for a new meeting between both parties, although only in the crane sector. Regarding buses, there is still no set date.
