Spanish gymnastics has been in mourning since this Saturday after the sudden death of Pablo HinójarSpanish coach of acrobatic gymnastics, double mini-trampoline and tumbling, at 49 years oldwhen he was in Madrid to participate in a competition with several athletes this weekend, as confirmed by the Royal Spanish Gymnastics Federation (RFEG).
“The Royal Spanish Gymnastics Federation expresses its deep sadness and dismay after learning of the death of Pablo Hinójar Rey (Pontevedra, 1975) this Saturday morning. National coach of double mini-trampoline, tumbling and acrobatic gymnastics during the last years, contributed to the consolidation of these specialtiesachieving unprecedented results in Spanish gymnastics,” said the federative body.
The Pontevedra coach was in the Spanish capital to participate, along with athletes such as Melania Rodríguez, European and world double mini-tramp champion, in the tribute competition to the gymnast María Herranzdied in April at the age of 17 due to meningitis.
As coach of Melania Rodríguez, Hinójar achieved world gold in double mini-tramp on several occasions, closing the triple crown last April, when the Galician, along with the titles of European champion, World champion and World Games champion in this modality.
As the national trampoline coach, the Spanish double mini-tramp team proclaimed itself World team champion in Sofia 2022, world runner-up in Birmingham 2023 and European champion in Guimarães 2024. In the national Acrobatics team, he led the team to achieve the titles of runner-up in Europe and runner-up in the world, the latter this same year in Guimarães (Portugal).
“His premature and unexpected death leaves an irreparable hole for both Galician and Spanish gymnastics. His passion and personal involvement will always be remembered by gymnasts, coaches, judges and people who love our beautiful sport,” highlighted the RFEG. “We are sure that his dedication and dedication to gymnastics will become a example to follow for their gymnasts and for the rest of the Spanish coaches. The gymnastics family regrets his loss and from the RFEG we join in the expressions of affection towards his family and loved ones,” he concluded.
