The centenary Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña organized this weekend within the Abanca Week, and with the help of the City Council of A Coruña, fulfill a debt with the most awarded Olympic sport in our country: canoeing and you can be satisfied, because He has done it impeccably, with really good organization, despite the fact that the weather was not very good on this Saturday day in the beautiful Galician city.
At around eight thirty in the morning, the La Solana area was bustling with paddlers, club technicians and directors, and the public. At those moments, with the first light of day, a few drops fell, which made the situation hopeful, that a great spectacle would be experienced in the confidence of a morning that was at least not rainy. But nothing could be further away, because when it was eleven in the morning and the Solana was hosting hundreds of spectators on its promenade, the rain was intense and marred the spectacle.
Despite this, the Organization, together with the Náutico and the Galician Canoeing Federation, managed to comply with the schedule, and the rounds followed one another like a Swiss clock, between the San Antón Castle itself and the mouth of the Náutico marina, the Royal Navy. Finally, but after one in the afternoon, the sun appeared and the program could be completed with great expectation, and the well-deserved victory of the Asturias Dragon Boat from Santa Cruz de Mieres, came fully deserved.
Behind the more than 40 paddlers (boys and girls) from the Principality were those from the City of Pontevedra Canoeing School, with the Ferrolterra team, the KDM Cababas Club, completing the podium. To highlight the victory in the BSC category that closed the rounds of this first edition, the Cidade de Lugo Canoe Club. At the end of the event and before the awards ceremony, at the foot of the pier, the members of Bolboretas de La Coruña, Montse Vázquez and Soledad Tahoux, read a manifesto in favor of breast cancer research, which was followed by hundreds of spectators.
Now the Abanca Week stays in the capital of Hercules, where in November two new events will also be held by the Concello da Coruña: the Isabel Zendal for female crews and the Aurelio Fernández Lage for base sailing. The A Coruña Nautical Festival Version of Abanca Week has started on the right foot, thanks to the work of the Real Club Náutico Herculino, and the support of the Concello da Coruña.
