Gil Manzano, Betis referee – Atlético de Madrid

The Technical Committee of Referees has published the referee appointments for the eleventh day of LaLiga. He Betis receive this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Atlético de Madrid at the Benito Villamarín. A meeting that will be led by J.Esús Gil Manzano from the field, while Ricardo de Burgos Bengoechea will be in charge of supervising controversial VAR plays.

The Extremaduran referee has whistled at the Verdiblanco team on 32 occasions in which they have achieved a balance of twelve wins, six draws and fourteen losses. Since the 2024-25 season began, Gil Manzano had not yet met on the pitch with the Beticos. The last match in which he was present was last season when Manuel Pellegrini’s team traveled to Montilivi to face Girona. A match in which the Heliópolis team was defeated 3-2 with after Stuani’s goals and Dovbyk’s double for Michel’s team. For Betis, Willian José scored a double that was of little use to the green and white team.

This Sunday will not be the first time that the Extremaduran calls a Betis-Atlético de Madrid match. He already did it in the 2022-23 season, when Simeone’s team won 1-2 thanks to Griezmann’s two goals. The response from the Betis came late and Fekir’s goal in the 84th minute only served to close the gap on the scoreboard.
