Witnesses who saw a couple after the fatal attack on Samuel Luiz, presumably Diego MM and Catherine SB, then boyfriends, confirmed in the trial that they heard the boy use expressions such as “fucking faggot” and that they also saw blood stains on him. They said that the woman was “upset” and that she reproached him for his behavior. “She kept repeating how they had left him,” said one of the witnesses in the murder trial taking place in the Provincial Court of A Coruña.
Several young people who were in the same group that night came across a couple who were arguing in an “altered” tone, Europa Press reports. They were going along Linares Rivas Avenue in the direction of Europa Park where, according to the accusations, the defendants had stayed after the attack on Samuel Luiz. One of the witnesses explained that the girl seemed “angry with him, she told him that they had gone too far.”
Although when testifying after the events he did identify these two people as Diego MM and Catherine SB, before the court he said he could not do so due to the time that had passed. Regarding the woman, he said that he heard her reproach him with something similar to: “How you left him or how you left him.” He, according to this witness, replied: “I don’t care, he was a fucking faggot.”
Like the others, another witness confirmed that he heard the expression “fucking faggot” from the boy, presumably Diego MM. Asked by the popular accusation if he said “that faggot deserved it,” he answered yes. He said the same thing when questioned by the accused’s defense about whether she blamed him for what happened.
And in his questions, Catherine SB’s lawyer has stressed her argument that she sought to prevent her partner from attacking the victim and reproached him for his attitude, while Diego MM’s lawyer has insisted on the issues to which witnesses, on the clothing of this and other defendants to try to exonerate his client.
Minors already sentenced
On Thursday, the two young people who were minors at the time of the brutal beating and who are serving a sentence – three and a half years in closed detention – after pleading guilty to murder, testified by videoconference and as witnesses. To most of the questions they responded that they did not remember what happened. One of them, Marco FO, also stated that the group they were with had consumed alcohol that night, from the moment they arrived and until they left. Outside the entertainment venue where, according to the accusations, the attack on the victim began, he said he saw “like a brawl.”
He stated that he did not see Catherine SB “do anything” nor did he see another of the defendants Kaio ASC, whom he did not identify in the photos provided in the trial being held in the Court of A Coruña. “I didn’t see Diego attack, but I heard screams, like a brawl, and I approached,” something he did, he said, with Alejandro MR, whom he pointed out did “nothing” either. “I arrived late to the brawl and left before it was over,” he added.
He said he did not remember if Diego MM had asked him to delete from the phone the conversations that, according to investigators, they had after the events. Nor did he hear another of the accused, Alejandro FR, say that “he had only punched him a few times.” Regarding the victim, he indicated that he found out the day after his death. “I saw a lot of people, there were screams, people running,” said David RV, the other young man who was a minor when Samuel was murdered.
