The Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions and Citizen Action (Attack) organizes on October 29 and 30 a conference on the penetration of investment funds in Spain. The platform aims to start a debate that allows us to understand the causes and consequences of the problem and its possible implications in terms of well-being, employment and production. Angel of the Castlepresident of the organization, has announced that they are working on an observatory to analyze at the European level the effects of vulture funds on society, also with the help of ecological, union and economic groups.
The conferences, which will be held in the Ateneo La Maliciosa (Madrid), will have several discussion tables and the participation of figures such as Nacho Alvarezprofessor of Applied Economics at the UAM; Leandro del Moral, member of the New Water Culture Foundation; Pilar Galindovice president of the Spanish Society of Organic Agriculture and journalists such as Yago Álvarez, Manuel Rico, Sara Plaza either Eduardo Bayona. Participants will talk about the role of investment funds in the primary sector, as well as in essential services and strategic sectors.
Attac denounces that the current context continues to be “very favorable” for finance, banks and investment funds. The conference aims to make known the magnitude of the problem and how the percentage of capital linked to investment funds, especially foreign ones, is evolving, both in the non-financial companies as in essential public services. Attac estimates the number of Spaniards who have money in investment funds at 25 million.
The platform also seeks to give names and surnames to the main sectors and services where these funds operate, as well as to study whether these movements can give rise to concentration processes that lead to oligopolistic behavior and the deterioration of the essential public servicessuch as health, care or education. Those interested in registering to attend the conference must fill out this form. Participation is completely free.
