Santi Aldama, the only Spaniard in the NBA apart from Jordi Fernández as coach, has started the season strong with the Memphis Grizzlies, posting a spectacular performance against the Utah Jazz in the 124-226 away victory, with a balance of 27 points annotated. In this way, the canary is vindicated after the non-renewal with the Tennessee team.
The records were 10 of 16 from the field with 5-10 in triples and he achieved five rebounds and two assists for his team, without any free throws in between. The Spaniard was especially decisive in the last few minutes full of tension to seal the victory.
Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins praised Aldama’s game at a press conference. “I think he has a lot of potential. Entering its fourth year, it has grown a lot. He’s had a lot of different roles for us. “He has come off the bench, he has been a starter, he has played in very big quintets… Sometimes he has had to play as a 5, but let’s hope that when we are completely healthy he can have an extreme impact in a lot of different positions,” declared the coach.
The canary also seemed positive about his contribution to the team. “I am very confident. In me, my game, my ability inside, my passes… I always want to go out to make great plays, to help the team. My role changes with the return of Ja (Morant), but I want to play as much as possible, whether at ‘3’ or ‘4’ and be able to help win,” added the forward in the post-match, where he had a hilarious moment with Ha Morant.
Aldama has a contract until June 2025, at which time if an agreement is not reached with those from the Western Conference, the Canarian will become a restricted free agent, a condition by which the Grizzlies will be able to match any offer that reaches the Spaniard.
