Saint John of Capistrano was born in Naples in 1386 and, at the age of 30, joined the Franciscan order. In 1416, during the conflict between Perugia and Malatesta, he tried to mediate peace between both communities, but was captured as a prisoner of war. After his release, he decided to dedicate himself to preaching the Word throughout Italy, where his eloquence attracted thousands of followers. This ability led him to preach during the crusades against the Muslims in Europe. Finally, he died due to typhus.
