With the aim of make more use of natural light and adjust it to the citizens’ working hours, all countries of the European Union (EU) must turn the clock back one hour when it’s three in the morning. The daylight saving time that some countries so want to maintain is behind us and from then on, it will dawn and dusk earlier.
Changing the time has benefits, such as energy savings, but it also has negative effects in humans that can take up to two weeks to disappear.
What day is the time change?
The date of the time change and return to winter time this 2024 will be next Saturday night, October 26to Sunday, October 27. In Spain, it always occurs on the last weekend of October, this year it falls on the 27th, so daylight saving time has been maintained practically the entire month.
Should the clock be turned back or forward? And at what time?
When changing to winter time, the clock is set back one hour. As they say: “At three, it will be two”since at three in the morning next Saturday night, The clock must be turned back one hour so that it reaches two o’clock again.

From the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), the hours of sunshine are used more and this is the time when electricity is not consumed. They are experts in favor of changing the time, so they calculate that they save approximately six euros a year, but they multiply it by the 24 million homes in Spain, so In total, the savings are 144 million euros throughout the country.

It is a topic that has been put on the table several times, but is still up in the air today. The European Commission it was proposed end time change in 2019but the European Parliament proposed as the last year the 2021and it wasn’t like that either. The MEPs were of the opinion that countries that wanted to keep summer time should do the last one in March, and those that wanted winter time should do it in October.
As to Spainthe committee of experts appointed by the Government to decide it did not agreeopened a time of reflection and remains in the air until Europe resumes it.
The last schedule change proposed by the BOE is in 2026
However, the latest schedule change proposed by the BOE is 2026. The Ministry of the Presidency acted last year as a result of the lack of progress at the European level on this issue and published in the Official State Gazette a official calendar with the start and end of daylight saving time from 2022 to 2026.
And 2026 is precisely the last year that the BOE deals with the time change. This could translate into, Starting in 2027, we will no longer set the time forward or back.
