UNE Editorials declare their commitment to editorial quality and good practices, also in open science communication, and call on the academic and scientific community to demand compliance and identify it under scientific quality standards.
The editorial process involves phases of transformation of the original into a work (selection, peer review, correction, design, structure, choice of formats, assignment of metadata, choice of dissemination media, impact monitoring, defense of rights of author, …) that must be done with total transparency, traceability in the flow of publication and collaboration and support to the author in the project that is being designed, all of which is inexcusable to maintain and fulfill the mission of communicating science with loyalty to the reader, that is, to society.
The UNE Editorials, which integrate the publication services of Spanish universities and research centers, are aligned with the international movement of open access to knowledge, which seeks to recover science for society, as the common good that it is.
Publish with editorial quality
For this reason, and scrupulously complying with this quality requirement, they make available to the academic and scientific community nearly 1,000 journals (975) and thousands of open access monographs that, hosted on the publishers’ own platforms, guarantee good practices. that science communication requires.
Furthermore, UNE Editorials, which have been working to recognize the scientific editorial quality of the works they publish through the CEA-APQ Academic Publishing Quality Seal, demand and apply compliance for all types of formats (paper and digital). and modes of access (venal or open access) in the collections that obtain it, 68 currently.
Open access journals and diamond route
The 73 publishers of Spanish universities and research centers publish 993 journals, of which 975 (98.19%) do so in open access and 872 (87.81%) do so under diamond route criteria, that is, the costs of publication are borne entirely by some institution.
Of them, 374 have obtained the FECYT seal, 210 are indexed in JCR, 280 in WoS and 380 in Scopus, according to the UNE scientific journal portal.
Open Access Monographs
The total scientific production in open access from the publishers of the associated universities and research centers, which have this content dissemination model, is also available on the UNE website.
A compilation that facilitates the location of these publications (books, magazines, teaching and academic materials, articles, theses, contributions to conferences and conferences, etc.) in the different institutions.
UNE, FECYT AND ANECA
The UNE Editorials, through the association that brings them together, have been working in close collaboration with ANECA and FECYT to guarantee the editorial quality of the publications of Spanish universities and research centers and implement systems that accredit it. The Quality Seal in Academic Publishing is an example of this, after holding eight calls in the collection modality and two in individual monographs.
This collaboration extends to the development of open access scientific communication, where UNE and FECYT have been cooperating on several projects, including the development of the Diamond OA Standard (DOAS), a guide that establishes the standard for diamond open access publishing. , promoting quality, equity and transparency in scientific communication.
