Three birthdays in one day
Wednesday October 16th 2024: in two days the decisive weekend for the fight for the Superbike world title will begin in Jerez de la Frontera (as well as the last of the championship), but while waiting there is still time to celebrate three birthdays in one day only, with two of these who will see the world championship contenders blow out their candles: Toprak Razgatioglu and Nicolò Bulega.
Toprak Razgatlioglu
The world championship leader and favorite to win the title turns today 28 years old. Born in Alanya in 1996, the Turkish rider has so far achieved his greatest successes in the championships reserved for motorcycles derived from series production. After his first steps in motocross, Razgatlioglu achieved his first big success in European Superstock 600 championship in 2015before making his Superbike debut in 2018. Best Independent Rider the following year with Kawasaki, the Turk then graduated world champion in 2021 with Yamaha, and already on Saturday he could get his second title in his first year with BMW.
Nicolò Bulega
Mathematically in the running in the fight with the Turk is Nicolò Bulega, who celebrates 25 years today. Born in Montecchio Emilia in 1999, he established himself in the European and Italian minibike championships, before moving on to the Italian and Spanish speed championships. It will be thanks to his success in the latter category that the current Ducati rider will make his debut in the MotoGP in 2015, obtaining a pole and a victory in 2016. Having then moved to Moto2 in 2019, Bulega’s career sees a turning point in 2022 in world Supersportwhere he will graduate world champion the following year. In his debut in Superbike he boasts four victories so far.
Andrea Locatelli
‘Happy birthday’ also to another Supersport world champion like Andrea Locatelli, the same age as Razgatlioglu and born in Alzano Lombardo (BG) in 1996. Italian Speed Champion in Moto3 in 2013, Locatelli made his debut in the MotoGP the following year, obtaining two seconds places in 2016 before promotion to Moto2. An experience that will push him to World Supersport Championship in 2020dominating the season and becoming champion as a rookie. From there, he moved to Superbike with Yamaha, with which he has achieved a total of 17 podiums so far.
