The 2024 season ended early for Remy Gardner, who fractured his left wrist in Estoril. So, for the last event of the year, the GRT team took action and this weekend we will see Alessandro Delbianco on the track. The Italian has already returned to the world stage on two occasions this year, the first as a substitute and the second as a wild card.
In fact, it will be the third race weekend in the Superbike World Championship for Delbianco, who went to Magny-Cours to race with the GRT team to replace Dominique Aegerter, while in Cremona he competed in a wild card with the MotoxRacing team. This weekend we will find him for the third time in 2024 on the Andalusian track, always helping the team captained by Filippo Conti.
“I’m very sorry for Remy, I wish him a speedy recovery,” said Delbianco ahead of the Jerez round. “I’m happy that the team called me again and I’ll try to do my best once again; at Magny-Cours we managed to have a good weekend and with more knowledge of the bike I hope I will be able to improve the sensations I had back then.”
“This time I will work with Remy’s team instead of Domi’s, finding Damiano (Evangelisti) as crew chief, with whom I already work in the Italian Speed Championship (CIV). Due to the coincidences between the various championships we were unable to end the season together in Italy and due to a series of circumstances we will still be able to end the year together with another race. I can’t wait to get back on track,” continues the driver, who is involved full-time in the CIV.
Filippo Conti, GRT team principal, is enthusiastic about having Delbianco back among his ranks: “First of all, we are very sorry that we will not be able to have Remy with us for this season finale, we wish him to recover as soon as possible after the unfortunate accident in Estoril and we send him a big hug. This means that we will welcome Alessandro back with us after the good debut at Magny-Cours: this time he will work with Remy’s team and will meet up with Damiano, with whom he already works in the Italian Championship”.
“We hope to be able to repeat what was done in France if not even take some steps forward, but above all collect useful information for the bike. On the other side of the garage, Domi did well in Portugal, fighting through the pain to score important points; the target for Jerez will be the same, also working on his constantly evolving physical situation. Last year we ended the year on a high note in Jerez, this year the circumstances are different, but we are still confident that we can have our say and conclude this championship well which has given us difficult moments, but also other very beautiful moments ”, concludes Conti.
