Despite the US warning, Israel confirmed that it had carried out an airstrike in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh, after several days without attacks on the Lebanese capital, following a request from US President Joe Biden. In a statement, the IDF said Israeli Air Force fighters, led by intelligence officers, struck an underground Hezbollah weapons depot in Dahiyeh.
Hezbollah: “Rockets launched in northern Israel during the night”
For its part, Hezbollah announced that it had carried out four missile attacks during the night on the “occupied city of Safed”, in northern Israel and on the areas of Dalton, Dishon and Yiftah. In a social media post, the Lebanese group said a “large rocket bombardment” had been launched on Safed, and that rockets were also fired at Israeli artillery positions in two of three other areas in the north that were taken aiming.
The Israeli military earlier reported that “around 50 launches” were detected crossing Lebanon into northern Israel in the early hours of this morning. “Some” of the launches were intercepted by Israeli air defense systems while “incidents were detected in the region”, said the army, which did not say whether there were casualties or damage to infrastructure.
IDF: Hamas drone operations chief killed in air raid in Gaza
The head of Hamas drone operations in the northern Gaza Strip has been killed in an air raid. The IDF reported this, identifying the person responsible for the attacks with unmanned aerial vehicles against Israel and Israeli troops in Gaza as Mahmoud al-Mabhouh.
US ultimatum to Israel on Gaza and Lebanon
If within a month, i.e. after the presidential elections in America, Israel does not facilitate humanitarian assistance to Gaza, the embargo on arms transfers could be triggered due to the violation of US rules on military assistance to foreign countries, the secretary wrote of State, Antony Blinken, and the Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, in a letter addressed last Sunday to Israeli ministers Yoav Gallant and Ron Dermer. The United States has also “made it clear to Israel that we oppose the bombing campaign it has launched in recent weeks in Beirut. We are seeing a decrease in raids in recent days, and we will continue to monitor very carefully”, continued the spokesperson for US State Department, explaining that Washington “has concerns about the nature of this campaign”, in particular the “number of civilians” involved.
