Lining up for the 10-hour, day-to-day event, the team quickly found difficulties taming the highly rugged track surface. However, Matteo Cairoli, Andrea Caldarelli and Romain Grosjean didn’t hold back for a second, working hard during the sessions to improve the car’s set-up.
After a smooth start, the team remained within the pack in the initial stages, with Caldarelli and Grosjean at the wheel for the opening two stints. Unfortunately, Cairoli was hit from behind halfway through the race, at the end of an equally positive race.
The accident required a long pit stop for repairs. Despite losing four laps, including a penalty assessed for a pit infraction, the #63 trio had an increasingly competitive pace as the race progressed into the night.
Even though it was not possible to aim for the Top5, Cairoli, Caldarelli and Grosjean managed to gain ground on the cars in front of them and the Swiss ultimately set the fastest lap demonstrating great potential. Despite a problem in the final minutes, the SC63 managed to cross the finish line eighth in the GTP Class.
As the American season draws to a close with good promise and work to do for the future, the Lamborghini Iron Lynx looks to the final round of the FIA World Endurance Championship which will take place at the Bahrain International Circuit.

“This weekend definitely had its challenges. We were aware that this type of track probably wouldn’t suit our car completely. However, we worked to maximize everything we had, and Matteo, Andrea and Romain once again coped the race and drove impressively,” admitted Iron Lynx Director of Track Operations Emmanuel Esnault.
“Unfortunately there are things we can’t control and the contact was a clear example of this, but we showed we were competitive and the car worked well for almost the whole day. Now we have to continue working on all aspects to finish the race. year in the best way possible in Bahrain”.
On the drivers front, Cairoli adds: “It was a somewhat complicated weekend and the fact that I didn’t have much time to drive before the race didn’t make my life easier. We still managed to make steps forward and this is definitely a positive sign for the future. I want to thank everyone at Lamborghini Iron Lynx for this season and now let’s try to improve even for the next one!”.
Caldarelli echoes this: “It wasn’t the best weekend for us. After sunset, we suddenly found more rhythm and we were going quite well. Unfortunately, before then, we lost some laps due to some problems and we weren’t able to It’s a shame because the car was very good in the evening. We still have a lot of work to do. This wasn’t the best track for us in terms of layout and we struggled a lot during the day, but we got some good data to work on. and prepare for next year.”
Grosjean comments: “It was a fantastic experience working with Lamborghini Iron Lynx in GTP this year and we learned a lot. Today was a bit of a difficult day for us, with no neutralizations to get back into the lead laps and with a mechanical problem in the end, but we can also be proud of having set the fastest lap of the race in normal conditions. It shows that the car has great potential and we hope to be able to exploit it for next year.”
