ČTK: former Deputy Minister of Defense of the country Kostoval will become the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Russia
The new Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Russia will be former Deputy Minister of Defense Daniel Kostoval, named to the ČTK agency at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
According to the publication, he should take office in the first months of 2025. “I wish the ambassador much strength in this difficult mission,” Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky gave parting words.
It is noted that Koshtoval has already received approval from the host country. He worked at the Czech Foreign Ministry since 1996, and from 1998 to 2002 was a member of the permanent Czech delegation to NATO. From 2003 to 2006, the diplomat served at the embassy in Moscow and then at the embassy in Washington.
In 2013, Koshtoval became the first Deputy Minister of Defense, and until the end of 2018 he was Deputy Minister of Defense for Strategy, International Relations and Planning, and then for Armaments and Procurement. He has worked in Russia since 2018, but has been in Prague since 2022.
The previous Czech ambassador to Russia, Vitezslav Pivonka, resigned at the end of May.
Earlier it was reported that the Czech Embassy in Moscow dismissed 71 Russian citizens as part of the reduction of the diplomatic mission on a parity basis.
