The United States government, led by Democrat Joe Biden, has warned Israel that if the country does not significantly increase the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza in the next 30 days, it could lose access to American military funding.
The demand was formalized in a letter sent on Sunday (13) by the Secretaries of State, Antony Blinken, and Defense, Lloyd Austin, to the Israeli government. The document, according to information from the agency Associated Press (AP)was motivated by the “increasingly critical humanitarian conditions in Gaza,” which were observed by the current American administration.
As reported by the APthe US State Department said that the volume of humanitarian aid to Gaza has fallen by more than 50% from its previous peak.
According to the American agency, to continue receiving military support from the US, Israel must allow at least 350 trucks with humanitarian supplies to enter Gaza daily, in addition to guaranteeing additional humanitarian pauses and strengthening the security of aid distribution sites, according to the terms of the letter. The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has “30 days to comply with these requirements”, according to US authorities.
