One year in prison for false reporting to two individuals who put drugs in the car of environmentalist Juan Clavero

Two individuals have been sentenced to one year in prison for plotting a trap whose sole purpose was for the environmentalist Juan Clavero, very active in the defense of public roads in the Sierra de Grazalema, to end up in prison. Seven years after the activist was surprised by the Civil Guard transporting 47 grams of cocaine in his car that had been placed there, José Miguel Herrera, manager of the Breña del Agua farm (through which one of those roads crosses), and Manuel Alcaide, who left the drugs in the vehicle, have been convicted of a crime of false reporting. The other two accused have been acquitted.

In addition to the prison sentence, which will probably be suspended as it is less than two and a half years, the Provincial Court of Cádiz imposes the payment of a fine of 2,700 euros each and a joint compensation of 20,000 euros to Clavero, who passed one night in the cell without knowing why, and ten days exposed to the media as a suspected drug trafficker. The Prosecutor’s Office requested a year and a half in prison for them. The sentence has been reduced due to the mitigating circumstance of undue delays.

For Clavero, the matter goes far beyond a mere false complaint, which is why he wanted the accused to also be tried for the alleged crimes of illegal detention and integration into a criminal group, crimes that have been ruled out.
