The objective is to encourage the population to eliminate breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti mosquito and control the increase in cases
The Ministry of Health launched on Tuesday (October 8, 2024) a national awareness and mobilization campaign to reduce cases and deaths from dengue, chikungunya and zika in Brazil.
The objective is to encourage the population to dedicate 10 minutes a week to controlling their mosquito breeding sites Aedes aegypti.
With the slogan “Do you have 10 minutes? The time to prevent it is now”the campaign guides the population on the importance of removing mosquito breeding sites, in addition to providing information on early diagnosis, medical care, risks of self-medication and the location of health centers.
The campaign will be widely publicized on open TV, radio, internet, sound cars and mass circulation points in all regions.
The initiative integrates the Ministry of Health’s reinforcement measures for the prevention and control of these diseases, in order to ensure assistance to the population during periods of greatest risk.
The Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, highlighted that the government is preparing for the next rainy period, with a focus on reducing cases and deaths due to arboviruses.
“We are implementing a work plan based on surveillance, control of transmitting mosquitoes and strengthening health networks, especially in peripheral areas. Among the actions, we are using Larvicide Disseminating Stations, which help reduce the development of larvae in breeding sites”, stated Nísia.
The minister also mentioned that vaccination remains an important strategy, although it is limited by the availability of doses provided by manufacturers. “The public and places are still restricted in our country due to the limited amount of vaccine we receive from manufacturers”said the minister.
On October 1st, Nísia spoke at the plenary session of the Board of Directors of the Pan American Health Organization in Washington DC (USA). Rreinforced Brazil’s commitment, as the current leader of the G20, to discuss actions related to climate change and its relationship with the exponential increase in diseases, such as dengue.
