MG ZS has an important record: it is the second best-selling petrol model of the Italian brand. An increasingly popular car among motorists who find in the model of the Anglo-Chinese brand an excellent compromise in terms of content but also consumption. The ZS is now renewed and arrives on the market with a new version that increases slightly in price, with three trim levels available but a richer offering. The price list thus starts from 23,490 euros for the Standard version, from 25,490 euros for the Comfort and finally from 27,490 for the Luxury.
Exterior design by MG ZS
The design of the MG ZS 2024 is more modern, re-proposing some of the stylistic features born with the MG3 Hybrid + and highlighting that family feeling that is defining all the brand’s new models. The front is characterized by a large grille, with a characteristic upside-down L design, enclosed between the two vertical side fenders. The front lights are equipped with a main LED headlight (halogen on the STD setup) and are embellished with an internal Y-shaped chrome detail that continues outside, connecting the two “eyes” of the car. The side takes up the lines of the previous generation while evolving in the proportions of the volumes and overhangs. The double rib of the C pillar is particular. At the rear, new lights with LED light signature are offered for all versions as well as the running and brake lights.
The interiors
It also improves habitability, with more space on board, both for the front passengers but above all for the guests in the rear seats thanks to the wheelbase extended by 30 mm. The internal equipment in terms of seat comfort is completed by the electric adjustment of the seats for the Luxury trim, enriched by greater functionality on board thanks to 30 storage compartments such as a compartment in front of the front passenger or an umbrella holder compartment in the tunnel central. At the center of the dashboard we find the new touch screen which can reach 12.3″ in size (10.25″ for the STD version) and which allows easy control of all on-board functions and connectivity with the smartphone. AndroidAuto & AppleCarPlay are available as standard via USB cable. The platform located under the screen offers immediate access to the main climate and volume control functions. All trims also have a customizable 7″ digital driver screen and two digital screens for engine rpm and speed, combined in a single 12.3″ “shell”.
Connectivity, iSmart, ADAS
The new generation ZS incorporates remote control technology via iSmart app with vehicle information functions, remote climate control including seat heating (if equipped), remote locking/unlocking and navigation route planning. The MG Pilot package is offered as standard with safety and driving assistance solutions. ADAS level 2+ are available on all trim levels. For example, we find adaptive cruise control with intelligent function (ACC + ICA), automatic emergency braking (AEB), forward collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDW), lane keeping assist (LKA), Emergency Lane Keeping Assist (ELK), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSD), Rear Collision Initiation (RCW), Dynamic Lane Center Guidance (ICA), Unstable Driving Warning (UDW), Intelligent Speed Limit Warning (ISA ). Among the ADAS systems present as standard, ZS debuts the door opening collision warning system (DOW) and the rear traffic assistance system with maneuvering warning (RCTA).
Motor
MG ZS is equipped with a full hybrid powertrain which combines a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine, a 1.83 kWh battery and a 3-speed transmission integrated with two electric motors (45 kW motor-generator and 100 kW). While maintaining the power of the 75 kW/102 HP thermal unit unchanged (same as approved on the registration document), the overall peak power is now 197 HP. The modest improvement compared to the MG3 which adopts the same technology is linked to a different calibration of the EV traction motor. Depending on the driving mode chosen (ECO, Comfort, Sport), the state of charge of the battery and the position of the accelerator, the activation speeds of the different modes can be delayed or anticipated. The car proceeds in EV (electric motor in traction) with a speed of up to 50 km/h, in SERIES (electric motor in traction and petrol engine in current generation) between 50 and 80 km/h, in PARALLEL mode (heat engine in traction with EV engine in boost) between 80 and 120 km/h with boost function of the EV unit and finally on PETROL above 120 km/h with boost function of the EV unit.
