Italy offers technology, innovation and machinery and Colombia has great resources, this fantastic country puts its natural resources
On behalf of the Colombian Executive, they signed the launch document the Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Polivio Rosales; and Patricia Cortés, director of Europe in charge of the Vice Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The Agrocadenas project not only represents a significant advance in bilateral cooperation between Italy and Colombia, but also underlines the commitment of both governments to consolidating peace in the most vulnerable rural areas, through the generation of inclusive and sustainable economic opportunities. “said Vice Minister Rosales.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, The ‘Agrocadenas’ project will focus on strengthening production processes, to improve the operational capacities of public and private actors, and to strengthen the economic development of Colombia and Italy. All this through technology transfer, the promotion of innovation and public-private relations.
“Today we launch this project that serves to strengthen a very important sector for Colombia: agribusiness. Italy has very specialized knowledge and technology, so we agree to complement each other. Italy offers technology, innovation and machinery and Colombia has great resources. This fantastic country puts its natural resources,” explained Ambassador Curcio.
Specifically, The project – which will have financing of around 10 million euros – will improve the production chains of coffee, cocoa, avocado and fruits tropical, promoting innovation in production, marketing and distribution processes.
“We think that economic and social development from the rural and agricultural world is an important and fundamental component. That is why we focus on agri-food chains. The important point is that, as the word chains itself says, it is made up of links and if a link does not work or one is missing, the chain is not complete. We must work on each link: production, food processing, the industrial component, marketing and certification.”explained Rusconi, director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, about the objective of the project.
Marco Rago, from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also assured that the initiative seeks to strengthen the economy and sustainable development and the benefit of the communities that live off Colombian agriculture.
“Italy is a country that has a very high level of agricultural technology and is an exporter of its technology and equipment throughout the world. We believe that Colombia’s agricultural development can be implemented with our technology. It is a project that has a lot of attention on the farmers, on the local people, on the agricultural groups, for a sustainable future. This is why it is true development cooperation,” he said.
At the event, the Italian ambassador to Colombia also announced that they will launch a project that seeks to restore the Baluarte de Santa Catalina, in the wall of Cartagena.
“We are going to Cartagena tonight. The project is to recover a part of the wall and also carry out a sustainable tourism project in the city of Cartagena. The enhancement includes lights, restoration, security of one of the most significant bastions of that wall,” he said.
In total, as explained by counselor Rago, Italy currently has six new projects in Colombia and hopes to be able to increase exports to our country.
“This is not just development cooperation, but it is a total economic synergy, because Colombia and Italy not only have 160 years of economic and diplomatic relations, but above all they have a great friendship,” he concluded.
