Culiacan, Mexico.- Around 200 elements of the National Guard (GN) joined the security tasks of the Special Forces that operate in different municipalities of Sinaloa, an entity hit by a wave of violence generated by the “narcowar” between two crime factions organized.
The squadrons landed this Friday at the Mexican Air Base No. 10, in Culiacán, “to join the intelligence, prevention and patrol work carried out in the entity by federal authorities in coordination with state authorities, with the aim of inhibiting criminal acts,” reported the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat.
The state agency presumed that the reinforcements came through agreements obtained during the last meeting headed by the State Governor, Rubén Rocha Moya; the Secretary of National Defense, General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, and the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch. “Together with the 100 elements of the Special Forces and the armored units of the SEDENA, who arrived yesterday, and today of the National Guard, plus the elements of the Federal Forces that already operate in Sinaloa, we are working to provide security with security work. intelligence and prevention,” he pointed out.
Since the arrest of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada was reported in July, after an alleged betrayal by “Los Chapitos”, 400 elements of the Army Special Forces were sent to Culiacán to avoid outbreaks of violence between the factions. “Los Chapitos” and “Los Mayos”.
However, violence escalated with the increase in homicides, robberies and drug blockades in that entity, mainly in Culiacán. The war between both factions has left around 190 people murdered, only between September 9 and October 8, according to figures released by the state’s National Public Security Council (CESP). State authorities did not rule out sending more troops this weekend.
