F1, Andretti and Cadillac believe it
Andretti Global and General Motors continue to push for entry into Formula 1 as the eleventh team on the grid. After the denial from Liberty Media a few months ago, the American team has not stopped believing in the possibility of entering the GP paddock, despite Michael Andretti’s step back. Indeed, after the sale of the controlling shares of the team to partner Dan Towriss, the team continued work on 2026. And it is recent news that already before Christmas the engineers led by the expert Pat Symonds they will have a frame model available for the wind tunnel that complies with the dictates of the new regulations.
General Motors isn’t giving up on F1
A move that allows Andretti Global to be in clearly ahead of all its rivals currently in F1who are instead bound by the rules on the budget cap and will not be able to work on the 2026 project until after 1 January 2025. To the encouraging news on the progress of the work on the chassis and aerodynamics, we now also add that relating to the giant General Motors, which through the Cadillac brand it has not stopped designing the F1 hybrid power unit for 2028. “We will continue – Eric Warren, the executive director of GM Motorsport Competition, told the French magazine Auto Hebdo – to follow the process to enter F1. We have been working on it for two years and are already intensively developing the engine and the car. There have already been some positive meetings and… one way or another, we will be there”.
GM and Cadillac after Renault’s withdrawal
However, it remains to be seen what could happen after the farewell of Renault as an engine manufacturer, which had committed to supplying an engine to the Andretti-Cadillac team for 2026 and 2027, awaiting the debut of the American power unit. On the one hand it is clear that, in the event of a green light for entry before 2028 – which remains uncertain at present, despite the American antitrust investigations – the team should find an alternative supplier. On the other hand, however, it is undeniable that the skills of many of the engineers who worked on the French company’s 2026 engine could be useful for the needs of many rival manufacturers, including Cadillac.
