A fire broke out on a coastal tanker in the Baltic Sea. Seven crew members had to be rescued – and are reportedly uninjured.
Heiligendamm – The crew members rescued from the burning oil tanker “Annika” are apparently uninjured, according to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Environment Ministry. Sea rescue workers brought the seven people from the ship to land after a fire broke out on Friday morning for an unknown cause. Initially, the media reported injuries.
According to the German accident command, the “Annika” was carrying around 640 tons of oil. The command announced that the 73 meter long ship is in the Bay of Mecklenburg between Kühlungsborn and Warnemünde.
It is at anchor and connected to a tug. Fire brigade teams from Rostock, Kiel and Lübeck are on the way with helicopters. Three ships are already fighting the flames from outside. Nothing is yet known about the cause of the fire. dpa
