General medicine on a war footing. The Fimmg National Council, the largest trade union in the area, meeting in Villasimius for the 82nd national congress, gave a mandate to its national secretary, Silvestro Scotti, for the declaration of the state of unrest. At the basis of the decision, feared already in recent weeks, “the unacceptable delay in the definition of the policy act, essential to then arrive at the signature of the 2022-2024 national collective agreement, but also the absence of additional resources for achieving of health policy objectives in reference to proximity care”.
For this reason, the National Council is committed to mobilization through the assembly involvement of the provincial sections of the country. “It is essential and urgent to define the policy document to finally start the negotiations necessary for the signature of the ACN for the three-year period 2022-2024”, says the general secretary Silvestro Scotti. “General medicine, a fundamental pillar of the National Health Service – he continues – has faced extraordinary challenges in recent years, including the pandemic and the constant evolution of the population’s health needs. To face these challenges and guarantee the care of modern and effective proximity, it is essential to have an updated regulatory and contractual framework. For Fimmg, the asphyxiated programming that does not go beyond 2026 and the absence of the policy act represent an obstacle not only for the category, but for the entire healthcare system and for the quality of the service offered to citizens”.
“We need concrete answers to be able to implement the necessary reforms, such as the integration of telemedicine, the digitalisation of services, the strengthening of resources for local medicine and better protection of the work of family doctors through their organization of offer for assistance groups with staff and diagnostic tools”, recalls the leader Fimmg. The appeal from the entire category to the Mef and the Conference of Regions is very harsh, precisely for contractual issues. “We are ready to fight to ensure that the issue is resolved in the next few months. At present, general practitioners, who pay all their own expenses related to the profession, are forced with a salary aligned with the cost of living in 2021, to support current inflation. We didn’t want to be heroes in times of pandemic – concludes Scotti – we won’t be sacrificial victims now. In the absence of concrete answers, which must arrive above all to protect the health of citizens, from the state of agitation we will be ready to declare the strike“.
