New cases are slightly decreasing Covid in Italy9% less than the previous week. In the period 3-9 October the incidence is equal to 20 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, stable compared to the previous survey (22 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the week 26 September-2 October). The transmissibility index (Rt) on October 1st is 0.93, decreasing (1.20 on September 24th). These are the data oflatest Ministry of Health-Iss monitoring.
As of 9 October, the occupancy of beds in the medical area was 3.5% (2,149 hospitalised), stable compared to the previous week (3.3% as of 2 October). The occupancy of intensive care beds was also stable, at 0.8% (71 hospitalised), as in the previous report (0.8% on 2 October).
The weekly incidence of diagnosed cases presents a heterogeneous trend in the different Regions/Pas. The highest value was reported in Lombardy (38 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), the lowest in Sicily (0.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). The age groups that record the highest weekly incidence rate are 80-89 and over 90 years. The median age at diagnosis is 60 years, stable compared to the previous week. Reinfections decreased slightly compared to the week before, equal to approximately 48%.
Kp.3 variant dominates, Xec grows
Preliminary data relating to the month of September highlight the co-circulation in Italy of different sub-variants of Jn.1 receiving international attention, with a predominance of Kp.3.1.1. Furthermore, the proportion of sequences attributable to the recombinant Xec lineage is growing. This is the picture drawn from the latest monitoring.
