The Saudi national team fell to its Japanese guest 0-2, in the third round of Group C for the third and decisive round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup scheduled for the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Japan succeeded in returning with three valuable points that put it in a comfortable lead in the group, without any loss, after three rounds, thanks to goals from Daishi Kamada (14th) and Koki Ogawa (81st).
The Japanese Samurai lead Group C with nine points, five points ahead of Australia, which achieved its first victory in this round at the expense of China 3-1, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
The match witnessed a large audience attendance, on the part of Al-Akhdar fans, at the Radioactive Jewel Stadium, amounting to 56,223.
The 18 teams that qualified from the second round were divided into three groups, with the champion and runner-up qualifying after ten rounds extending until June 2025.
Two other places are available in the fourth round for six teams occupying third and fourth places, with the possibility of qualifying for nine through a global playoff.
