Would you have imagined that a surf wetsuit could emerge from a tire? This is the result of the collaboration between Blue Banana, the outdoor and adventure fashion brand, and Volkswagen. Specifically, they have created a neoprene made from recycled tire rubber.
The neoprene, called Roadcycled Wetsuit, comes in black and with the brand’s logo on the front: a reflective white X, which is repeated in different areas of the suit such as under the neck and on the calf. It also has other reflective prints around the collar and cuffs, as well as reinforced and watertight seams.
Now available in Blue Banana physical stores in Madrid (Goya street), Barcelona (CC L’Illa), Valencia, Málaga and Bilbao with a price of 299 euros, it highlights the second life of a tire.
Furthermore, its presentation has been led by two great surfers, Nacho Sebastia and Alazne Aurrekoetxea, who tour the north of Spain – the area where surfing was introduced to our country – in the ID. BUZZ, the electric version of the legendary Volkswagen T1.
«We have worked on this project for months. We wanted to show how a resource like tire rubber, which has completed its original life cycle, can be transformed into a useful and durable product, adapted to the demands of surfing. The Roadcycled Wetsuit not only represents an advance in material innovation, but also gives visibility to a new way of surfing, where performance and respect for the environment can coexist,” he comments. Nacho Riveraco-CEO of Blue Banana.
«We are aware that this project will not change the world, but we do seek to raise awareness about small gestures that can have a positive impact on our environment. The Roadcycled Wetsuit has been designed for those who want to experience surfing in a different way,” he adds. Juan Fernandez-Estradaco-CEO of Blue Banana.
