US elections|The former president is campaigning in the state of Libra.
Long the line wound its way up the street toward the University of Pittsburgh’s athletic hall on Thursday afternoon local time. The former US president was about to begin Barack Obama’s starred election event where he campaigned for the Democratic presidential candidate Horrible Harris on behalf of.
Pennsylvania is perhaps the most important swing state in the election, and Obama, as the most popular Democratic politician, still has a lot of use in campaign work.
“It feels like it’s coming full circle because Obama was the first black president, and now he’s here to speak for Kamala, who’s running to be the first black woman president,” says the University of Pittsburgh law student Niya Porter For STT, while queuing in the sunshine to the arena that draws more than 4,000 people.
According to him, Obama’s election as president in 2008 was a huge moment for black Americans.
“It meant everything. It was the kind of incident where you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when it happened. I was only eight or nine years old at the time,” says Porter.
“I was at his second inauguration (in 2013). He also inspired me to go into politics, that’s why I’m studying law.”
Porter is happy that the Democratic nominee is Harris and not Joe Bidenwho gave up the pursuit of the second season in the summer.
“I respect Joe Biden, but I think it was the right decision. I’m glad Harris came to the fore.”
Porter mentions abortion as the most important election issue.
Trainer and Ph.D Amy Alexander says he wants to do everything he can to get Harris elected president.
“I think this is one of the most important elections of our time, everything is at stake,” says Alexander.
“The most important issues are women’s right to control their own bodies”, the preservation of democracy and the rights of sexual and gender minorities.
Pittsburgh native Dan Gochnour says he supports Harris, among other things, because he doesn’t like the rival candidate About Donald Trump. He does not share the Republicans’ dissatisfaction with the US economic situation.
“I think the economy has gone in the right direction,” says Gochnour.
For him too, seeing Obama means a lot.
“He’s the best president we’ve ever had.”
